We had a great time! The Freight Hoppers rocked. I've never seen them live before and it was awesome! David (their fiddle player) came and jammed with us for a while before their show on Sunday which was really, really fun! I played uke so I could better watch his awesome bowing, and I made some videos so I could learn new tunes. He plays so fast I thought I would just muddy it up if I played fiddle. We met a whole bunch of cool people, including some folks who played mostly bluegrass but wanted to try old time.
We barely got there in time for my friend MJ to play in the first round of the band contest with her new band Run Boy Run. It was good that we made it, because her band won first prize. Now they have to go back next year and play at the festival.
The other awesome thing that happened was that I met Bill Burke, who is a luthier in Flagstaff. I showed him my box fiddle and saw his instrument building seminar. I told him about my projects, so the next day he brought me a huge box of old fiddle parts and wood from his workshop! It was like Christmas and a birthday all at once. Now I have some top and back wood, and a bunch of sides and bindings and purfling and stuff. I'm going to make something cool out of it as soon as I have time. There were also a bunch of sawn-off necks and one good neck that I can use.

Excellent! The Freight Hoppers most definitely rock - glad you had a chance to see them (and jam with David!)

It's so wonderful having a friend who is generous with fiddle parts! Can't wait to see what you come up with while using them.
