And the living is - HOT! Yes, after my long journey east for Clawcamp, clifftop and Acoustic Music Camp in Texas, I returned to the 100 + summer weather in Yuma. Much of August has been over 110 but I must say I have been mildly disapointed that we didn't see any 120 days.Perhaps next year. HA! A nyway, seems the southwest heat agrees with me so no complaints, just reporting. I like taking a swim after dark so the warm nights suit me just fine.
The gig teaching over in San Diego has been going great. I have about a dozen wonderful students - some who come regularly, some more drop in and out as they can - so every two weeks I make the drive over on Friday morning and back home Saturday evening (less than 3 hrs each way). I do have some spots available on Fridays but Saturdays are usually full. Email me for details if you are interested.
I just finished the "advanced" fiddle recordings for the fiddle/mando version of Old Time Festival Tunes and will be sending them to Mel Bay for posting on my author's page soon. The Clawhammer Banjo and Fiddle versions of this book share the same "basic" standard notation reference line but differ in that the Clawhammer book has two lines of banjo tablature (basic and advanced) while the fiddl/mando book has an advanced standard notation line as a line of "mandolin" tab which could be used as fiddle tab. Many of you have told me how much you enjoy this collection so I hope to begin updating and expanding Buzzard Banjo Clawhammer Style to the same format. Work on that should begin in ernest sometime this coming fall.
Clawcamp is the next big thing I have coming up. Check it out if you are ready to take a close look at and work on your skills to become a better clawhammer player. We don't so much work on tunes as we do on technique. Basics to Music is what we cover. Something to challange everyone and great folks to spend time with. Clawcamp West is set for San Diego, CA Feb 26-28 while Clawcamp Eastwill be return to Jorma's Fur Peace Ranch in Southern Ohio. That was a GREAT facility and we are all looking forward to having it there again. Bob Carlin will join us at Clawcamp East again also. Big discount this year for early registration and even better for returning students. www.Clawcamp.com for the latest there.
SO, as we enter September and the holiday weekend, Miss Jennifer and I will be heading over to Tucson to visit some friends and have a couple tunes there. I promise to write sooner than 3 months this time but till then...
