...and we didn't even do one of the polkas I'd worked on. But this dance was a lot of fun for play. We played the dance after the wedding reception which washeld in the Festhalle in Amana. It was nicely decorated with white Christmas lights and all the folks were dressed up except for the band :)
The caller was Tim Jenkins (from Wisconsin) and we played about 2 1/2 hours while he led these young and older folks through alot of different dances. He really gets them up to speed and having fun quickly. I hear he's a good fiddler, too, but we didn't have time to play tunes together. This was perhaps the "easiest" that playing has ever been. The backup was just there all the time and we found ourselves in a real groove. Like Brian (banjo) said, "I found myself watching the dancers mostly because the music was just 'there' . " I agree. It was "easy". Kinda nice to know also that we were documented in photos and videos of this young couple's lifelong wedding memories, so I'm glad we played well.
Fun stuff.

Sounds like you had a great time!
I've only played one dance and I for sure want to do it again, though I'm only up to speed at the rate of beginner dancers. Give me another year and I may be able to do better.
It's funny, I was thinking about you the other day. I learned the Metzer Polka off Jehile Kirkhuff's tune list. We played it at the jam this weekend. It's a fun one, and actually not all that polka-ish.

Glad to hear you had a good time. I like playing for dances and am doing so the next two weekends in St. Louis and Lexington, KY.
It is fun to watch the dancers connect with good calling (like that from Tim Jenkins) and good music.
