Banjo Billy Workshop

Posted by bsed55 on Tuesday, August 18, 2009

Well those of you who were contemplating going to Mtn. View, AR (but didn't), you lost out on a great experience. We sure had a lot of fun! Made some new friends and renewed contact with others. I hadn't played with Christine & Billy since I'd met them a couple years ago, and I just got reminded of what gems of people they are! And of course I finally got to meet M-D. Now, if you want to know anything about the history of the area, the nature of the miscreants and characters that inhabit the area, or you just want to play a good Ozark tune, he's your guy! The tunes we studied was: 14 MILES FROM GEORGETOWN...... CHARLIE'S FAVORITE...... I'LL REAP WHAT I'VE SOWN...... NEW GREEN...... 'POSSUM UP A GUM STUMP...... PUNCHEON FLOOR...... STEEDSMAN'S WALTZ...... THE INNKEEPER. Also, I pulled one of my musical "jokes" on Billy by playing one of his tunes for him in a jam session. He didn't quite remember right away that it was his tune. Well, there was actually a very good reason for that, which was that I (unintentionally) mangled the A-part so that he couldn't recognize it. The B-part was good, but I left some notes out of the A-part. The tune, BTW, was Tufted Titmouse, which I think I have on my music page here. Lastly, I want to thank the hosts at The Inn at Mountain View. I can't remember their names. I'm sure Martin will set me straight. I'm looking forward to next time. Hopefully next August again.

Bruce,

It was really nice meeting you and your wife. Wish we'd have had more time to visit, but it seems there's never enough time for it all. I hope you two got to see more of the area than just what was down-town. I know you said you went to Blanchard, but. . . .

Mark and Jo Ann Nelson are the inn-keepers at The Inn at Mountain View.

Billy has a fiddle-only work-shop come February, too. There's nothing at all going on in town then, so it's even more laid-back than normal. With no leaves on the trees, it's easier to see more of things. Do hope you'll come back sometime though, whether August . . . or whenever!

Bruce this is what makes my world go round! It was the best playing music with you at the evening jams. Now that you have met Martin, you see in person, that he is one of Mtn. Views most attractive blue baby pirates ever. But more than that he's a gentlemen and a great fiddler. Arkansas would not be the same for me without him. Hope to cross paths someday soon.
Christine
