Hey Guys! -
Still trying to find aid for my eye, but checking in to say that when I was growing up, (all English customs) - we celebrated Lammas - the grain harvest.
John Barleycorn was sung, and grain breads and wreaths were baked and crafted (grain dough), and the trad toast of spirits - (we kids got koolaid or mom made barley water)
I restarted this and kept it up after my mom passed away (1980)- because it ws just a comfort thing, and any celebration always was reason for a party, and to honor folklore roots!
I will always honor my grandfather on this day (Aug 1st) as he kept the bardic faith alive, and filled my ears with stories and song.
The grain loaf is in the oven, and John Barleycorn on my fiddle.
However, I hope that this August isn't the screaming heat as of yore. Oh well - I'll live!
Jen
