It didn't seem that long ago when it took me a week to learn a new tune.
In the last three days I've learned four new tunes, and also played a half dozen easily that I'd struggled with in the past.
My fingers are spitting out the tunes as if I'd played them all. Wow.
And one of them is the truly crooked Paddy on the Pike. My fingers now get it. No agonizing thinking about it, they just GO there.
I'm not quite up to speed on all of them, but I'm between 70-80% there with no mistakes and even a bit of feeling. And I'm reasonably happy with the bowing on all but ONE of them, the basis is there for me to build on easily.
And eventually I WILL Nail That Catfish To A Tree . . . with my bow . . .
Jamming regularly. That's what is doing it. I've played OLDTIME with other people at least once a week for the last 4 weeks. No bluegrass distractions, just Oldtime All The Time. What a difference!
I have a feeling I'm going to be keeping up the pace at Lake Genaro much easier this summer. YAY!

Actually, that was autumn in Tasmania, BJ. :-) I'm back in the US now. Taking a trip down south. Maybe there's a Merlefest in my future.

Catfish to a tree, that's a great tune. My fiddle instructor just gave me that one last week, and it is fun.

Yeah, Catfish is a fun tune, even if it is a "new" tune rather than an old one.
