Over the last few weeks, I have been dusting off my somewhat limited repoirtoire of irish tunes. My girlfriend & I, who perform as an acoustic duet, did a couple of shows of irish & celtic music in honor of St. Patrick's Day. It motivated me to learn some new tunes, including Morrison's Jig, Sally Garden, and Foggy Dew (on banjo). I also worked on Irish Washerwoman and Larry O' Gaff, along with Danny Boy and Give Me Your Hand. It was fun.
Although I play more old time fiddle tunes than irish tunes, it made me realize how many wonderful songs there are in other traditions. I hope to keep some of these tunes in my regular practice rotation.
Happy Saint Patrick's Day, y'all!!! Guiness and irish fiddle tunes all around!!!
