Sara, You must be very pround of your product. You've come up with a novel way to get it into the hands of anyone interested, very inexpensively. I was figuring (since you have to expect differing opinions, here) that there would be some that just plain didn't like it, for whatever reason. I think you've hit the jackpot and come up with a great product. Just don't lose the recipe, after getting us hooked. Oh, and let someone else know what the recipe is, so it will continue to be available irrespective of "the keeper of the secret herbs and spices, original and extra crispy recipes".
MRosin - Posted - 03/21/2011: 06:16:12
Steve, I'm thrilled people like the rosin! We're working now on some other things, like different packaging and sizes. I got hooked myself---after trying to find a cheaper/better rosin alternative for my students (who always break their expensive rosin, much to their parent's dismay!). I never really expected it to be good. It's been really fun!!
I wanted to mention our payment processor was offline for 4 days, and people could not order. The problem is fixed now. That was a long weekend!! Many apologies for the inconvenience to those who tried to order.
You're right, it's probably good to guarantee the future of Magic Rosin availability. I hope I'm around for good long time, but I should get a lock box at a bank and will the key....
crunde1 - Posted - 03/21/2011: 21:43:34
I am very excited to give it a try- I ordered one for my self and one for my instructor who has been playing for about 45 years and teaching for 30+ years! I will let you know what we both think! thanks for the offer!
MRosin - Posted - 03/22/2011: 05:13:46
Hi crunde1, thank you for your order! I'd be really curious to hear what you and your instructor think of Magic Rosin.
Thanks everyone for your patience this weekend with the ordering down on the site. Everything is back to normal~
Cheers from melting Minnesota!
Sarah
crunde1 - Posted - 03/22/2011: 08:25:15
Sarah- you are most welcome! Hope you are thawing out. You have had a rough winter. I grew up in MN and my parents still live there. I cannot imagine dealing with the cold anymore-- I have become a true wimp
Thanks again for the opportunity to try the Magic Rosin.
R-Peggy-O - Posted - 03/22/2011: 14:06:24
Well, I saw this thread, went to the site, and it appeared that the cost of the rosin was $0.00! This can't be, I said to myself. So I sent the nice folks a note to ask for help, but then went to Amazon and bought one with one-click. Looking forward to the magic...then I'll write a poem, too. Maybe a sonnet.
MRosin - Posted - 03/22/2011: 15:02:05
Hi R-Peggy-O, Awesome--a poem or sonnet would be an honor!
I'm going to send you some extra rosin, as Amazon charges full price. We had a dickens of a time getting it to charge 0.00 so we had to leave it. Will ship this afternoon.
Thanks!
Sarah

I got some magic rosin last week and I really like it. It grabs the string without the scratchy sound. I's very smooth.
MRosin - Posted - 03/22/2011: 17:56:15
Hi Sherry, I'm really glad you like the rosin. Thank you for the nice comments!
Sarah
tonyelder - Posted - 03/22/2011: 18:01:40
Yea! Accepted my order this time! Bought 1 of each, but will make another order after the test drive.
I'm proud to see you doing well - your generosity is deserving of success. Thanks for making this available.
MRosin - Posted - 03/22/2011: 18:05:33
Hi Tony, yes, I just saw the order. Thank you for your patience! I'll look forward to hearing what you think of it. The people at Fiddle Hangout are awesome! Thank you for your vote of confidence!!
Will send out tomorrow morning.

MikeyBoy - Posted - 03/22/2011: 18:40:22
Ok, I bit. Ordered one of each, but something happened during checkout and I got two fiddle, and one cello, if I I only get one of each that's ok. Looking forward to trying this stuff out, but if I don't sound just like Michael Cleveland I want my money back (less shipping and handling). ;)
MRosin - Posted - 03/22/2011: 18:52:50
Yow!! Micheal Cleveland...!! Just watched one video so far...I'm getting a great education. Wish we could guarantee that!!!
If you didn't plan on getting 3. I can refund for the 3rd. Did the shopping cart malfunction? I hope not!
Best,
Sarah
p.s. I'm most interested to hear what people think of Magic Rosin 2 on the fiddle. Of course appreciate any feedback!
MikeyBoy - Posted - 03/22/2011: 19:05:25
It was probably an error on my end, but if it makes no difference to you, i'll take all three, I can find a good home for the extra. will it arrive tonight before I go to bed?
MRosin - Posted - 03/22/2011: 19:15:04
Ha! Oh no, you're pointing out some of the flaws of Magic Rosin.....the actual magic is somewhat limited. Unfortunately no instant Michael Cleveland and the instant delivery system is still on the drawing table!
MRosin - Posted - 03/22/2011: 19:25:54
I wonder if I can ask for some help? People at Fiddle Hangout have given such excellent feedback for Magic Rosin!! It is most appreciated!!
I just activated a "reviews" feature on our website for Magic Rosin 1 and 2.
I wonder if I can ask if people would be willing to put some of their comments on our website reviews? It would be really helpful for us!!
If you were willing to do that, it just asks for your name and email and short review. You don't have to give your whole name and the email will not be published. You would click the "Write a Review" or "Write a Review" link under the product picture
magicrosin.com/Magic-Rosin-1-f..._p_9.html
magicrosin.com/Magic-Rosin-2-f...p_10.html
Many thanks in advance! No pressure, of course! It's looking kind of lonely with nothing there yet, and I felt funny about adding people's comments myself!

Hi Bart, that's great to hear! Thank you for the feedback. How does it compare on the Incredibow to some of the other rosins you've tried?

Hey, Sara! I put up a review on the MR-1, but feel free to use any of my comments, so far, that you wish.

I like it..the little cloth thingy came off as soon as i starting using it..but the rosin is good and last a while. I cant tell you the difference between a $10 rosin and a cheap rosin..witch i usully use..why pay more when you dont need too. But so far the rosin seems good

My cloth came off too but a little dab of heat gun glue worked just fine. Us real Men what our rosin in a wood block but I guess a plastic block would keep the price down and it should be about the rosin after all. Maybe you could package a "green" package you know recycled cardboard and wood block made of sawdust glued together-they make think of this stuff at work. would I pay a extra for it? if my teeny tiny wood block and recycled could save the whole earth why not!

A fellow showed up at our house with a couple of Magic Rosins and wanted to give me one. I figure that the best rosin is stolen, so there might be something unlucky about gift rosin, and swapped him a new generic wood-block dark rosin for it. Kind of like you're not supposed to give somebody a knife, lest it cut the friendship; always got to get at least a small coin in return. (I figure paying shipping for rosin is enough to cancel the bad luck, so no worries.)
I like the little round package. Just this forenoon I took my fiddle and bow for an uncased walk up to the coffee shop on the corner, and just in case, I tucked the magic rosin in my pocket. Perfect size and shape for that. The #1 rosin is as clear and pale as the finest alfalfa or clover honey.
jamieholmes - Posted - 03/27/2011: 12:06:57
Woops there we go. Looking forward to rubbing it on hehe. ;D
Bart - Posted - 03/27/2011: 13:06:54
Sarah, did you do the painting for the lids of the packaging? They're both pretty. They'd make pretty T-shirts to sell at festivals and such.
MRosin - Posted - 03/27/2011: 21:01:47
Hi Everyone, thank you for the great feedback and comments!!
Tommy's Dad: Yes! We're working on some recycled packaging...! Trying different packaging options has been really fun. Recycled wood/sawdust is a great idea!
transplant: "The #1 rosin is as clear and pale as the finest alfalfa or clover honey." Awesome!! What a nice story...I'm glad the Magic Rosin could slip into your pocket for the trip to the coffee shop. We need this kind of coffee shop in Minneapolis!!
jamieholmes: Will send it out first thing tomorrow morning.
Bart: I'm using my dad's art on the packaging. He was a midwestern artist/painter. David West. I've used about 15 of his paintings for Magic Rosin labels.
That's a great idea about T-shirts. I've made some cards, etc...
Best!!

About two weeks ago, I went to the Magic Rosin web site, and ordered one cake of the violin/viola rosin. Using the web site was simple, and the rosin was free, with only paying shipping and handling (approx $3.95 IIRC). I got a confirmation when the order was placed, and another confirmation when the order was shipped. I think I received the rosin approx five days after placing the order, which is in my opinion excellent service.
The rosin cake arrived in good shape. The first thing I noticed was it's color. It is a very light color, maybe a pale amber or light honey color. Second thing I noticed is that the cake appears to be approx half as tall as a "typical" piece of rosin. Actually, this makes sense to me, because I noticed that rosin seems to change it's characteristics after a year or so or use. So why buy more than we need at one time?
When it was time to apply some rosin to my bow, I first made an effort to wipe the bow hair clean. I use an old cotton sock for this purpose. I then applied a small amount of the rosin and then gave it a go. I have to admit that I do like this rosin. It is smoother than any other rosin that I have tried, but it does seem to grab the strings. I have used "grabbier" rosins, but this one seems to have struck a nice balance between grabbiness and smoothness. I live in the San Joaquin Valley portion of Calif, and we have just been through about two weeks of rolling storms, so needless to say the air is relatively humid. The true test will be how this rosin works during the summer, when the air temperature is about 105 deg F in the shade, and the relative humidity is around 15 %. One more thing, this rosin produces relatively little dust.
So far, so good! Buona sera.
Oh, I almost forgot, I got a small sticker attached to the invoice that Sarah included with the order. I have a bad habit of putting stickers on my fiddle cases. Now that I have tried the rosin, I will be putting that sticker on my case.
jamieholmes - Posted - 03/28/2011: 03:40:50
Hey I wan't a sticker aswell I am turning my violin case into a piece of art.

I've been using Magic Rosin for several weeks, pretty much since I started back in on the fiddle after many decades away, and I'm feeling incredibly lucky to have happened upon this rosin. It's wonderful! Thank you so very much for a scrumptious product, Sarah. It's the right size and shape and, yes, to recycled packaging. Also, I vote for Mudbug's hilarious jingle - it certainly brightened a rather stressful day

Thanks, Sherry, but as my mother used to say "Don't encourage him, it'll only get worse!"
MRosin - Posted - 03/29/2011: 06:15:50
Lou: That's an excellent review and description Magic Rosin and the ordering process. Thank you!!
jamieholmes: Yes, yes, sticker should arrive soon. Everyone gets a sticker with each order!
Sherry: Thank you for the really nice feedback! Mudbug's jingles hilarious!! He must be encouraged!!
Steve: Here's to formally encouraging you!
And now for shameless Magic Rosin promoting: Strings Magazine is going to have a review of Magic Rosin in the May issue:

after a wild weekend, I finally had some time to sit down and try this rosin. One thing I learned right away is that you only ever need a small amount; I worked at two of my bows with a cloth to get rid of at least some of the rosin that was on there, and some came off, but the bows still played decently. But I tried some #2 on my Incredibow Omnibow, and some #1 on my 'good' wood bow: it went on smoothly and was a pleasure to use; grabbed the strings smoothly without any 'crunch' sound. More feedback as I play with it. Now to figure out a way to stop going to work every day, so I can focus on evaluating this rosin...

"Now to figure out a way to stop going to work every day, so I can focus on evaluating this rosin..."
R-Peggy-O: Ha! This is great!....can I put this quote on our facebook page?
Thank you for the great feedback!
fishingcat - Posted - 03/29/2011: 17:11:43
I was skeptical, but after awhile, the combination of all those reviews and the current price (free), I went ahead and ordered a cake each of #1 and #2. I got them ... oh, almost a month ago.
I like the little packages — fits anywhere and is durable, even in a pocket — and haven't had any trouble with the cloths coming off (but I tend to be careful with my "stuff" in general).
There's no question ... I'll never go back to any other rosin for 'cello. The Magic Rosin #2 gives me the sound I want to hear AND the grab I need! I did have to make some adjustments to my (relatively noobie) bowing to accommodate Magic Rosin's "grab". I also learned first-hand what R-Peggy-O said above — only a small amount is needed.
I don't rosin my bows often; in fact, I couldn't say with any accuracy HOW often I have been rosining up ... I just do it when I find myself "digging in" to get "average" sound and/or volume, and it's days (even days and days) between rosin applications. So it's not with any accuracy when I say that I have the impression I may need to rosin somewhat (not much) more often with Magic Rosin ... but that is the impression I'm getting at this time. Results (sound and playability) are the whole point, so I don't really care about more frequent reapplication (it's not like I have to do it in the middle of tunes or anything) but I figured I'd mention that as part of a balanced review.
Took quite awhile for one of my fiddle bows to need rosin (yes, I could have cleaned the old stuff off, but with what little time I have, I'd rather be playing it off instead!). Finally got there this past weekend, and I find that the Magic Rosin #1 is just smoooooth and the bow responds perfectly, just the way I like (I had already learned from my 'cello experience NOT to use much at all). I won't be trying Magic Rosin #2 on my fiddle bows just because the #1 suits my particular tastes perfectly, and I can't see why I would want to switch away from it.
Needless to say, I now have a museum collection of OTHER fiddle and 'cello rosins that won't be getting used. Might make good fire starter?
Magic Rosin forever!!! Thank you Sarah!!!
