I was feeling a little guilty after someone's else's thread turned into a Magic Rosin thread ( through no fault of Sara at M.R.) so I figured I might as well start one specifically for it. I used it today, and really, really like the creamy tone. There's an underlying bite there if you want it, though. Is it made by little elves sprinkling fairy dust in each cake? Only they can tell us. But I think this will be my new rosin of choice. It never hurts to placate the wee folk. ![]()

hello my firend you say that Magic Rosin really works i,ll have to try some
RobBob - Posted - 03/04/2011: 12:02:11
A local potter and fiddler makes plates that say, "The Devil didn't make the fiddle, he made the bow." Magic rosin would be good.
Andah1andah2 - Posted - 03/04/2011: 12:03:57
I've played a few days with it now and I really like too. I don't have a lot of experience and don't know what the term "creamy" means in this case, but I can say a few things.
1. While with other rosins I've used, you wonder if it is even going on because it is so dry that it doesn't feel like its coming off the cake. The magic rosin came right off the cake onto the bow with a few rubs. I felt like I was really getting some application with few strokes.
2. My bow is not skating very much now. It is grabbing when I want it to and with less bow pressure. It gives me more confidence with the bow.
So I like it!!
Thank you for the free trial.

OK, then I saw an ad for magic rosin. Hmm, am I missing something here?
MRosin - Posted - 03/04/2011: 12:41:40
Thanks for all the great feedback everyone! And thank you for starting this thread!
Magic Rosin has ingredients that allow it to be applied more smoothly. This was a big issue for me as a cellist. I didn't like the "dry" crispy feeling of rosin.
Please let me know if you have any questions about Magic Rosin!

I was worried that it would be like a lot of other of the light gold rosins and be too grabby and scratchy, but the price was right so I ordered a cake of #1 to try and I like it as well. It applies rather easily so my first time I put in on too heavily and it was rather "thick" sounding. Took some back off the bow and the tone softened nicely and gave a smooth silkier pull on the strings. Reminds me of the old Motyra Gold #18 that was all the rage for awhile.
I alos appreciate that there is little to no resin dust left on my top plate even after an hour of playing. Well done folks. Good luck with your invention!

Carl,
Great, I'm glad you like it! Thank you very much for the feedback, it's much appreciated!

I wiped down the bow hair (no alcohol) with a clean cloth, and lightly sanded the fresh cake of #1 Magic with a piece of #100 sandpaper. About a half dozen swipes of the cake was all I initially applied. I was pleasantly surprised at the first draw of the bow. Very little effort (pressure) is needed to pull a smooth and even tone across all strings. Even very subtle wrist movements produce the desired result.
I read the other thread as well, I've not see a negative review yet. Looks like a winner by all accounts.

Thank you ghopper! I'm so happy people are liking Magic Rosin!
Also, I know people must be cross-posting in other forums on other websites...we really appreciate that! We're just getting started, so the word of mouth exposure is really great...thank you!

I must admit I am finding myself wondering if people who are trying it, but not liking it, are just not posting out of courtesy, or if really everyone likes it? I hope everyone loves it, because my order is placed, and I'm hoping I LOVE it!
I'll just be curious to hear what feedback there might be in other directions. We humans are a diverse lot, with varying opinions and preferences in all things fiddle, so if there is any feedback that is not necessarily highly critical, but just a dissenting opinion, I'll be curious to hear it.
I'm looking forward to trying it on the Incredibow, which seems to need more rosin, IME.

I've been using magic rosin for a few weeks now, saw an add on craiglist of all places.
I'm glad y'all are en joying it as much as me. Ill stick withis rosin as long as I play with a bow :)
StrawboB - Posted - 03/05/2011: 09:29:48
Put another check in the "LIKES IT" column.
Received the rosin yesterday (Type 1). Did a thorough wipe-down of my bow with a rag, but didn't no alcohol or anything like that. Half-a-dozen swipes on the Magic Rosin, and put hair to strings.
Holy smokes! Clear, ringing, rich tone. Responsive. First impression is very positive. We'll see how it does on dust and such, but if it is dusty it's an acceptable price to pay for the performance!

Thank you for the great comments everyone! There are some excellent descriptive phrases here....I'm hoping I might be able to use some of the comments on our website. We really appreciate this kind of feedback!
I'm not really a business person but got into this when we realized how different the rosin is (goes on smoothly) and how good it is (sorry, terribly biased!). When we started getting such positive feedback from players of all kinds, we decided to give it a go. It's been a lot of fun....especially getting to know lots of string players!

At that price, with so many positive reviews, I had to order a couple cakes myself. I look forward to trying it out.

Thank you David, order will go out first thing Monday. Cheers from Minnesota!

Well you have my permission to quote me although I don't know why you'd want to ![]()
How about a jingle:
When your bow is slick and sloppy,
makes your playing come off floppy,
get the cake that folks all rave,
magic rosin is what you'll crave.
or
Magic Rosin hits the spot,
a few short rubs...not a lot,
gets your bow all extra grabby,
now if it just took off that extra flabby
MRosin - Posted - 03/06/2011: 05:52:36
Ha! I'm still laughing!! Those gems have to go somewhere in the Magic Rosin system....! A little fiddle accompaniment, vocals...
GeeDubya - Posted - 03/06/2011: 05:54:34
This could be as much fun as Burma Shave
Magic Rosin does the trick
Rub a little on your stick
Pulls those notes out, low & high
Makes the other fiddlers sigh.
MRosin - Posted - 03/06/2011: 05:58:16
Oh no...I can't stop laughing...this is making my day! These are great!

Magic Rosin's really sweet
It's got a feel that can't be beat
Play it smooth or play it chunky
Dig right in and spank that monkey.

I ordered some cakes awhile ago
Was a little afraid it would bow slow
Smooth and fast I found it to be
And its not even that very dusty
Charlie The Fiddler - Posted - 03/07/2011: 20:10:15
I ordered 2 cakes. This is the best rosin I have ever used. And that is nearly 50 years of using rosin. Try it. You will like it. Charlie the Fiddler

Bart - Posted - 03/09/2011: 12:07:36
Well, I have to say, I got my samples a couple days ago (both 1 and 2), and I'm happy. I went straight for the 2 on my Incredibow, because my experience has been that it needs more rosin than the hair bow.
I really loaded up the bow, and after the first few minutes, I dusted off the excess on the strings and the violin, and then played for a couple hours. Hardly any dust after that first coating from the over-rosined bow. And, nice playability. Pretty nice playability even when the bow was over-rosined, too, without that scratchy hiss I despise.
Sometime I'll try the #1 on my hair bow. I suspect this #2 is going to be good with my viola, too, but I like it with the fiddle, at least with the incredibow.
Nice product, and I like the little "tin" it comes in (although it is plastic, not tin).

Sarah,
You wouldn't happen to know how the "grabbity" of your regular Magic Rosin compares to Kaplan Premium Light, would you???
Kaplan Premium Light is pretty grabby stuff, and smoother than Kaplan Artcraft, but I add a layer of "normal" rosin, usually Becker Dark
for smoothness. If your rosin is as grabby as Kaplan Premium Light and as smooth as my combination, I'll probably switch.
MRosin - Posted - 03/10/2011: 19:01:40
Hi fiddlepogo,
Magic Rosin has a different feel than most rosins. It's difficult to describe the difference. People describe it as having a creamy feel. It's grabby, but in a creamy way....it you'd like to try Magic Rosin, you can order it, and if it's not right for you, we'll refund the shipping cost.
mudbug - Posted - 03/11/2011: 05:49:48
Hey, Sarah! Just tried # 2 this morning. Very tasty, with a little more "chew" than #1. Kinda like pasta cooked al dante.

Just wanted to add my 2 cents. Have played with the new rosin on for a few days now and am certainly getting a smoother sound than with the old rosin (not sure what brand that was).
So me likey!

Total newbie here, maybe not qualified to express an opinion, but I will anyway :-) I love the Magic Rosin! Much smoother sound on my cheap Chinese fiddle, easier to pull a sweet sound. I'll be ordering more.
