Notes: As played by Melvin Wine, transcribed in A and D. Per Carl Baron, Wine played this in G and C, in standard tuning. The recording I used must have been sharp, or maybe I just misheard. This was one of my earliest transcriptions, before my procedures matured, and thus may not be as accurate as my more recent transcriptions.

Notes: This is a version I transcribed from John Hartford's CD the Speed of the Long Bow. It begins in a g minor/modal key and shifts around quite a bit between modal and major with the sharps and naturals sometimes being a bit elusive. My first upload here so hopefully there are no typos etc. Enjoy. ......Jim

Notes: This is a great song for upping your playing! It's a fairly simple song that ingrains fluidity in your playing. I like to play part A with a separate stroke for each note and Part B with long strokes for many notes.

This is almost identical to old ragged coat -
major/minorish Starting on the E string -
I first learned it as Old Coat - (in shorthand from a banjo player) - and years later heard it on BHO as Old Ragged Coat - -But Fiddlepogo and Fiddlerfaddler say Boating up Sandy - so I checked - here it is - The name's changed - the tune retains it's integrity -LOL!

Notes: This tune is usually played in DDAD tunning. If you don't want to re-tune, it will still work but will lose it's droning bagpipe feel. Tuning to ADAE would be okay. The second time on the B part would include the pick up notes (and a half note D instead of dotted) if you were repeating the whole tune. In the open tuning, the B part is easily played 8va (octave up). Drone the open A note (and/or the low D if re-tuned) throughout the B part, and when possible in the A part.
