On my recent vacation to New Mexico is was caught off guard when I purchased a knife as a gift to my son. We hadn't planned on checking bags so as soon as I left the gift shop I realized that I can't take the knife on the plane... I make these bad decisions ...usually... Fortunately, my step daughter was driving back and she was able to deliver the knife.....Once, in a former life I brought home from Nicaragua TWO machetes in my checked baggage.. Things are different these days.....!!

You can still do that.
I had to go to the local court house a few years back to do some paperwork, and found myself going through a metal-detector - and suddenly remembering I had a locking jackknife in my pocket. I had to give it up, of course - and it turned out I was in the wrong part of building; my business was in another wing that had no particular security protocols.
As kids in northern Indiana we had no AC... only our rich neighbors had box fans.. We just sat in the hot.. at night we'd occasionally turn over our pillows because the bottom side was a little cooler..Mosquitos came with the territory..... To this day, I don't mind the heat.. I grew up with it. My wife, from England likes it cool but can't stand heat... Such is life..
As one wise man once said." I know only Two things for sure.. One, something is happening.. don't even try to tell me that life is all an illusion.. I KNOW that something is happening...........and, TWO.... I have absolutely no idea what it is that is happening.." Yep, for me that pretty much says it all..![]()

Without going too deep on this, I very much agree that the idea that believing it's all an illusion is an delusion. This is it, be here now is more my motto. I agree with the second part too. In some mysterious way they go together.

Yep.. in some mysterious way.......One time I woke up from a dream..........but the dream I awakened from was... being awake!!
I thought.. "If I'm awake now, what have I been for the past 20 years..!!".... Yep, mysterious...

Yes..
After retirement, I worked with a cabinet maker.. Precision counted... He said we could measure to the line, on the line or over the line, but we had to be consistent. One day he said that my measurements were all off by 1/64th of an inch... He demanded to check my measuring tape... Sure enough, it was 1/64th off from his.. What had happened was that I'd dropped it one day and that little wobbly thingy on the end got bent 1/64th and I couldn't see that with my eyes......Lesson learned.."Drop a tape, verify a tape"....and so it goes.....

Right after 9/11 - Stewardess were acting as security for flights. We were flying from Fairbanks to Anchorage, and I was kept from boarding because I had a "folding blade" on my person - a P38 on my keyring along with my keys. If you don't l know what a P38 is - well let me tell you - it is VERY dangerous weapon.
I raised a fuss, mainly because it was about the only thing I had left as a souvenir from my time in the military (Army 70-73).
I pressed the matter - which didn't help - but I was right, but technically speaking - so was she. As things progressed - another Stewardess was kind enough to help the situation. She offered to keep the P38 and send it to me in the mail. She sent it to me without a return address. What a genuine sweetheart. I'm still humbled by her kindness.
I still have my P38.
Before the turn of the century I worked in a metal shop. We would lay out sheets with a diamond scribe. There's tricks to achieve the accuracy when your line is but a scratch. Squares were always our bugaboos. We had a God square we compared the other squares with. Yes, tape measures were a bugaboo as well. The hook is meant to slide, for the push or pull measurements. Then the ink of the line could be marked on either the lesser or greater side. Making a 1/64th tape into a 1/128th tape. I used to be able to tell you the equivalent in decimal.
When in the US Navy, we all had experiences with clothes lockers...sort of like high school lockers. There was this ONE locker that, in order to open it, one must lift the handle and put just a Liiiiitttle bit of a clockwise twist for it to open.. This one guy tried multiple times to open that locker.. I'd walk up and just open it with no problem.. He'd try again.. and again and again.. We all laughed...Poor guy. I never did tell him to open it..![]()
A true story related to me by a shop manager friend to whom it happened.. In a strip mall one store was robbed at gunpoint. My friend said, "Why if a guy was to come into my shop and point a gun at me, I'd quickly knock the gun from his hand, kick him in the groin and pin him to the floor while staff called the police.." I said, "Did that ever happen?" He said..."Well sorta..When the robber pointed the gun at me, I wet myself....and fainted." Talk is cheap,
....Like father, like son.. My son was replacing a 30 inch stove and the doorway into the room was just 29 inches wide.. He needed to remove the door stop and the problem would be solved. Just as he got the door stop removed .......he realized that the New stove , while 30 inches wide, was only 27 inches deep.. DUH..it would have easily fit through the door sideways without tearing out the door stop. His final thought? "I should have taken a nap before I started this project."
.. and so it goes...
