I dunno, recording seems such a chore, it's never perfect and need to record again and again.
for me, It's time better spent learning/practicing/studying new tunes.

I always have trouble with the first few bars of the last part.
Latest multipart reels…
Lucy Campbells
Spike Island Lasses
Farewell to Ireland
( I would say, they are not totally obscure and people do seem to know them, at least round here...?)
Congrats Marty, that is GREAT that you are heading for the All-Irelands! And, you must be a heckuva mouth harp player. :-)

i usually look on here to find what others are playing, and then check the tunes out on youtube or the session etc. It saves throwing a dart in my O'Neill's book to see what tunes to play.
Had a day playing Farewell to Milltown yesterday. because i found out that it is not the tune i thought it was ...I was thinking of "Return to Milltown" Must get that one out and brush it up also.
Recording them seems to put a full stop on the tune learning process. How ever rough it turns out....Then what you gonna do with it before you delete it?

Since the advent of 300gig thumb drives (usb), I don't delete anything. Well, hardly anything.
I was quite productive yesterday.
Beware! This ain't. . . Wait. This is Old Time to me:
and an mp3
Haven't been having too much luck with the fiddle lately, so yesterday I got out an old banjo, which I haven't played in awhile, so I started at the beginning with:
Oh!Susannah
Camptown Races
Old Folks at Home
That banjo has nylon strings, and has never worked too well for clawhammer, but yesterday it seemed better, so I played "Barlow Knife," "Treat My Daughter Kindly," "Georgia Railroad" and "Sunny Home in Dixie."

I did that so often before internets, I could eventually just read the notes and hear what the tune was.
I've found many tunes on facebook, and here.

Anecdote of tune history from thesession,org...? ( I have no idea where where Milltown Malbay is! )
" Angela Crotty, Junior’s daughter, said that Junior was playing with a ceili band at the time. He was waiting outside the house for the car to come to take him to a rehearsal. But the car never came. Disgusted he went back to the house and this tune came into his head. She told me that he originally wanted to call it “Farewell to fecking Miltown Malbay,” but he didn’t think that would go over well.
In her lovely book, 'Martin Junior Crehan, Musical Compositions and Memories, 1908-1998', there is a picture of him on page 12, waiting for the lift that never came."

I feel like I would love to hear these, Doug!

Ok then, I had a go this, on my phone, and what a rigmarole... I put a mini mute on to cut the highs. I just read this once yesterday and today I'm reading the music, and I fixed a few things for my my 3rd recoding. I'm not 'playing the spaces between notes' enough. Too many accents on the beat, but I should have it down when I memorize it.

How about that then.... I haven't played this tune for a month or more.
I had to finish my practice session, so I would end it with this tune, I nailed those bars first time.

Yes. I figured that considering what the name represents there probably would be a 'Milltown' in each county throughout the British Isles. I was surprised there were so few with milling grain being such an important thing when towns began to emerge.
Milltown Malbay is a mid sized city town near the West Coast in County Clare. It has a long history of trad music culture and has produced some famous players over the years including a piper who was passionate about keeping the tradition alive called Willie Clancy. There is a summer music school held there each year and it attracts a massive swell of musicians from all over the world. I booked into it this year. I tried to get a place in the fiddle class but it sold out almost immediately, so I put myself in for the flute and asked them to switch me into fiddle when somebody pulls out. I was informed that there was already a long substitute list. I don't want to do flute especially now that I'm in the final with the tenor fiddle. The summer school starts this Sunday. There will be tens of thousands there. I walked out of one pub session last year and out on the street there was a queue for about 100 yards and most of the people in the queue had a an instrument case ie: fiddle banjo box concertina I suspect every other person had a flute or a whistle! A sight to behold. You should look it up.
Gradually picking up the fiddle again since the fuzz with the neighbour downstairs. Today, in G#C#G#C#, “Black Snake Bit Me on the Toe” came out as the absolute winner.
Also: I don’t just suspect it anymore, I’ve now become 100% convinced that the old Slovakian fiddle actually demands an output of 4 times # on the tuner, and it’s very firm about it. If I don’t stick to this weird little secret Slovakian rule, it just behaves like a donkey and throws the handler out of the rally. So I might as well sharpen up each time I pick it up.
