Mmmmz I shouldn't be that frustrated , relistened, except that I am creative with the order of the different parts and that in one part I put emphasis on the wrong 2 notes in a series of 4 notes, I didn't do a bad job for today.

But these days are hard for me, I feel like the whole world around me is falling apart, there is an incredible increase in the amount of violence and crime towards compeletely innocent citizens , men and women, noone gets spared and I just... do not feel safe anymore. Talked to some people here in the neighborhood, two men of moroccon origin, they admitted they felt the same way and one said I'm also scared sometimes these days on the streets, you just don't know who is about to pull a knife. One guy said he also noticed - just like me - that everyone is getting mentally challenged by what's happening at the moment. It helped to talk about it, but on the other hand it was like, it's not only on my mind, they too felt like there is a lot going on and hanging above our heads. I love this province, with its history of coal miners and the children and grandchildren of miners. I don't want it to turn into an unsafe place like in the bigger cities. I don't want this province to fall.

Fiddle is so important now, but it became an escape from reality.

Dineo. Day 3 and there is more dance in my playing. I feel it in my bow, certainly in the second part. After I can play it like this over and over again, I will start with slide notes.

Last weekend we got a bunch of June apples from the farmer's market and fried them up in butter with a little brown sugar and cinnamon. Delicious - kind of an extra chunky applesauce. So I've been playing "June Apple," though I had to look up the words.

Dineo, day 4: Eureka!!! I got it now!!!! It's 123 / 123/ 11/(1)2/12!!!!!!!

I can't stop playing , it sounds almost exactly like the slow version now, now add the slide notes I've been practsing on.

I'm happy again :-))) I sit here with this big smile on my face. Ziva is with me and she can't help but hum along with my playing.

@Strabo : I'll remember this one :-)) Now I have a solution for my past problem: count! I do a bit better as an upbower than as a down bower for one or the other reason, but I'll focus on improving as a down bower!

Quincy - I don't mean to dampen your enthusiasm, but I wonder if you realize that "Dineo" is just a local title for a pretty obscure version of a tune better known as "Sail Away Ladies" or "Sally Ann." I don't go to jams so I might not be up-to-date, but I don't think many people I know would recognize that title. Here's a classic recording of "Sail Away Ladies"

Yes Doug, I was aware of this, it was in the description of the tutorial. I played Sailaway ladies -a very basic version- in my first few years, it was more reading notes than anything else. The 'Uncle Bunt' Stephens version is way above my head but it rocks, ofcourse it does!

OK, good. I'm not really active in the old time music world anymore, and don't know many of the tunes that are popular these days.
I don't think the "Uncle Bunt" recording is really way above your head - it doesn't seem much more complex than what you're already playing.
Not to overload things, but I remembered that our band had recorded this song. Kind of interesting that "Uncle Bunt" was recorded in 1926, 100 years ago, and our recording was made in 1976 - 50 years ago - kind of a midpoint in old time music history, as long ago now as his was then. As it turned out this was the last track on the last album we produced and recorded ourselves. Someone has posted that whole album to YouTube:

BTW - We sang "Daddy-o" on the chorus, but some have thought that "Dineo" was another hearing of the lyric, possibly a variant of the name "Dinah." I'll leave you to your practicing now!

Popping on here in far too long a time! My fav at the moment is 'Bull at the Wagon' in A.
I did find a sheet music version in the 'Tunes I learned at the Farm' book, but the ones I know is very different.

Today I figured out the slide notes of Dineo / Sailaway Ladies. Except for the last slide note where the instructor puts middle and ring finger on the second string to slide the A note. It's a trick I have to dive further into, make it a habit. But it is great so far to have my slide notes sounding as they should! I never did slide notes before, it was about time!!! In the past my attempts sounded horrible haha, so I ignored the sliding stuff for a very long time.

Now it's about time to look for a good new tune. I'd say David Bragger's instructionals, because he is very strict on the bowing of a tune, but they are mainly modal tunes so it seems, have to check his YouTube again.

The Maple Leaf Forever. I just love this tune! I have it on an old Mormon Tabernacle Choir LP I still listen to. It was fun to hear the tune played whenever I'd watch my home team The L.A. Kings play the Toronto Maple Leafs on TV. Just a moment ago I gave the tune a try on the fiddle.

Ah. If you miss it you won't miss much. I definitely won't be winning anything except maybe a parking ticket if put the car in the wrong place. Should be be an interesting competition though. It is spelt ' Rogha Gléas' which in English language means miscellaneous. There is a list of instruments that are acceptable and viola is listed. However I'm making the destingtion of tenor Viola. The lady that beat me in Leinster is playing an F flute. The winner of Connaught is playing saxophone, 2nd in Connaught is tenor guitar and that's as much as I know. The fella that came 2nd in last year's final was playing tenor guitar so I'm guessing that he'll be there. A Bouzouki won it last year. So there will be eight representatives from Ireland (2 from each province) and whoever else from around the world. It has been won by USA players a few times in the past so you never know who will show on the day. As for me I still consider myself to be a novice on the tenor just lucky to be in the final, so I'm using this as a build up to next year. However I'll be starting in the mouth organ competition on Sunday as 'one' of the favorites. The absolute favourite is a woman from county Clare, Pauline Callinan. But that event won't be live-streamed. 

Love how a tune can develop. At least I'm economic with double stops/ drones now , I'll learn that too, eventually. Fixed the fiddle that comes from the luthier, now the old fiddle is missing a string :-p Should order a new set.

This morning I could finally try Three Forks of Cheat after repeatedly watching the David Bragger instructional last night. Oh my!!! What a beautiful tune to play is this and so nice to play it in between a slow and moderated tempo. It's so good that I bet really noone ever thinks this tune is boring or not very beautiful! David Bragger is awesome, I've reached the stage where the down up down up up down does NOT work on my nerves anymore but is very helpful now. Who would have ever thought....In the past I always hoped to be able to play stuff I was not ready for yet, I've felt disappointed many times hehe. Now I'm here and it feels great! Hammons tunes are the best <3
