This is my first contribution to the Gaspe fiddle preservation ...LOL I used to drive long distances to play with the Gaspe fiddlers of Douglastown , an Irish village in Gaspe that is no more... Just about the whole village played dance music ....here are friends of Erskin Morris , another great Gaspe fiddler ... This is Cyril DeVouge and Bridgette Drody backing him up on guitar ..... Cyril was close to 80 years old and had a hearing aid in each ear when he recorded this ..... can you imagine ? His bowing was hypnotic and complex .... he is one of the reasons I play the fiddle the way I do !

I'm pretty certain Douglastown still exists! However my friend tells me that the population and demographics have changed significantly. Its no longer an "irish" town. Most of the people left in search of work and never returned, this is especially true of the english-speaking people there. This is true with most of the anglophone towns in Quebec unfortunately. Anyhow, great music! I hope to play like that when I'm 80.
