This is probably my absolute favorite to play. Not sure what it is about this one, but I was in love with it from the moment I first heard it. I recorded this a couple weeks ago, and it's a lot cleaner and a good clip faster now, so I'll have to get a new recording up eventually. Dynamics and articulations have come a long way as well. Performed this one in front of 400 people last weekend and got them all clapping and stamping along--what a rush!

Is that from West Virginia or Kentucky? I can't quite tell!

Hehe, Østerdalen (don't know why the letters got all screwy in the title there) is an area in Hedmark, in Eastern Norway, and further north than Oslo.

Wow, another mighty fine tune, also very well played. I love those spooky old fiddle tunes no matter where they come from. Thanks for sharing them.

Great tune- thanks! Many phrases sound typically Scandinavian, but those final phrases and the way they resolve to the unison sound very Appalachian/Old Time! Intriguing!

Thanks everyone! Im tuned in F#-B-E-B, which is pretty standard for most hardingfele tunes. Bass string tuned up, and everything a whole step up from A.

Wonderfully beautiful. I just learned about the hardanger this previous week and now I found a player. Your music is such a pleasant listen. I enjoyed it greatly.
I wish I could find a Hardanger here in the USA, but its kind or rare and very expensive. Do they have 'student hardangers' in Holland?

You'd be hard pressed to find a hardingfele for less than $3000. One website you might use to look for instruments in Norway is finn.no - just search for "hardingfele".

Hei!
Nice to hear hardingfiddle. This halling is after Thorvald Tronsgrd, and you can listen to a short example here:

I do play in this group, sterdlenes spelmannslag: http://www.spellmenn.no/
and we have a lot of nice tunes. Just give me a hint if you want some scores. You can also find some good tunes here: http://home.c2i.net/kholum-noter/noter1.htm
Try the old wals nr. 5 after Johannes Langli, wery nice one.
