This is a sample for learning to play on two strings. I have played the tune slowly, in D, the first time thru, on one string. The second time thru adds the open string (A and D) drones. The third time is up to speed with rhythmic embellishment.

Thanks for the recording. I'll admit that I have never learned this one for the mandolin, even though I've told that it's one of the ones to know. When I hear this tune, it just sounds better on a fiddle - I guess it's time to learn it.

Thank you so much for posting this! I love how you play it slowly and then add more to it. With my fiddle teacher off playing in Clifftop and Galax for the last two weeks, your recording of this (and the tabs I found at jaybuckley.com) have given this beginner something I could really work on. This really has been very helpful to me. Thanks again!

LOL! I never knew the name of this tune! I learned it in AZ from a drunken guitar player who had gotten a fiddle - only thing he could play - said he didn't know what it was but he had it on a tape somewheres -
Here I have had it on my tune list of things to learn (hadn't heard it yet) and I know it! Drones included!
di - you have one ~sweet~ fiddle sound! Always a pleasure to listen to you!

Hey now, here's something I can get my teeth into now. Things have been coming together for me lately and I still haven't gotten that two string deal figgered out yet. But y'know, 'bout the second time through this I was actually making musical-like noise. Thanks for that Di!
Now if I can just figger out how to do Whiskey Before Breakfast the way you do it. Someday, someday.

A great tune for a beginner like myself to learn those drones! Thank you kindly.
