I used a very light appliation of rosewood stain after taking all the old varnish off with denatured alcohol and making several passes with extrafine sandpaper. Several deeper gouges and scrapes retained the darker staining from the old varnish gave the end result a very satisfying hint of age, something I wanted but was unsure of how to do. Divine Providence! Thank you Lord!!
