I'm pleased with this recording because I think it shows real progress. My bowing is muddy at this speed--something to work on--but I made it through the tune three times, improvising along the way, and I only got WAY off track once. I couldn't have done that a year ago. I have permission to post from the person who plays the backup--thank you!--but he prefers to remain anonymous.

Working on getting better tone and attack. I learned this tune from jams at the Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago.

Yesterday, a fiddle friend and I wandered around San Juan Capistrano sharing spontaneous Christmas music here, there, and everywhere. We had a GREAT time! Here's a little bit of holiday fun from us to you!

I always come back to this tune and I just happen to like this particular clip so I'm adding it to my scrapbook page. It's a George Nicholson/Bruce Greene tune learned from David Bragger.

A quick unpolished recording of a crooked little banjo tune that came to me on the porch last night. I tried it on fiddle--definitely a cross-tuner--and the bowing that makes it work is a little bit unique!

Every once in a while something in a lesson tune catches my fancy and in this one, it's the rhythm of B part. Sometimes it feels good to just play it straight, but it's also enjoyable to see what happens when I change it up. I start out a little bit off, in this recording but it gets better as I go along. : )

Quick practice recording so I can ask a couple of questions about the tune in a forum post.

My husband's been practicing this tune on the banjo and I'm trying to figure out how I want to play it. I guess this recording is Experiment #1 and I'll upload it here for safe-keeping.

I was playing with the Old-Time Machine at http://www.oldtimejam.com/Jam.html this evening and decided to turn on the recorder. There are nineteen different versions of Whiskey Before Breakfast on the Hangout. Why not make it twenty?!

A tune I learned from David Bragger. I always seem to go back to it when I'm in standard tuning. : )

I could play this tune over and over and over and I imagine that I will be working on it for the rest of my life. Mr. Douglas' recording of it is one of my very, very favorites.
