Recorded at Northeast Heritage Music Camp 2009, with David Kaynor and the contra dance fiddle class. David plays once through the tune first, then the other 4 of us come in. If you hang in till the end, there are some really cool harmonies.

Calliope House in D, played on a Nicolas Parola fiddle (any squeakiness and out of tune notes are my fault, not the fiddle's)

Scale and two french canadian jigs (Le Tourment and Maison de Glace) on a Nicolas Parola fiddle. Squeakiness and out-of-tune notes is a result of my playing, not any inherent quality of the fiddle.

Contra dance caller and fiddler David Kaynor giving my "new" fiddle a test drive. This is the fiddle that belonged to my grandfather back in the 1930s, but had been sitting, damaged and unplayable, for decades. Don Stackhouse (in Ohio) did some extensive work on it and restored it back to playing condition. This was recorded the same day that I got it back, at the Concord Scout House right before a contra dance (hence the sound check noises in the background). David's impromptu assessment: "Boy, I like it!"

Mandolin, Guitar, Vocal, Fiddle arrangement...not too bad for never having rehearsed it, I don't think. My stepdad on guitar and vocals. Myself on mando and fiddle.

Recorded this one in December 2008 also. Played it with my band for Christmas; I'm one of the fiddlers.

Another October 2008 recording...not only am I fiddling on this one, but I'm the singer for the very first verse (before the fiddle comes in).

A friend of mine and I played these French-Canadian tunes in December 2008, for the postlude at church. This is a separate recording from later that day, but we had the entire congregation clapping and stomping during the service. As we finished, one of the older gentlemen in the congregation turned to his neighbor and exclaimed, "Well that was certainly lively, wasn't it!?" :-) This is also with about 2 more months of playing under my belt than in the earlier recordings (Planxty Irwin, etc.). The ending is a little wonky, but other than that, I think I improved...

This is a waltz that I recorded with my band back in October 2008. I'm one of the fiddlers. It was one of the first tunes I played outside my own living room. It's also about six months old as I write this, and I've gotten better since then, but I thought it would be good to have something from back when I first got really into fiddling so I could track my own progress.
