Not sure where I first learned this- Krassen's Appalachian Fiddle book and Hollow Rock LP are possibilities.

I found this on an old cassette tape- I recorded it shortly after I learned it at a festival in 1976 so I would remember it- the low part is shaky, and it falls apart at least once. This is back when I was mostly a Nashville Shuffle fiddler- some of you will probably like this better than my current playing! ;^) Since it was recorded on my Norelco Phillips cassette recorder, the quality is pretty low, natch!

A somewhat obscure D tune I've known and loved for decades.

Basically the Cole's 1001 version of Miss McLeod's, but dressed up in Old Time ruffles and shuffles! ;^) Key of G, standard tuning.

Some might say it's not "Old Time" but I'm guessing it got played by more than a few Old Time fiddlers back in the late 1800's, and this is my sense of how it might have been played. I've tagged it "other" since some OT fans don't seem to like Stephen Foster. Bowing note: I'm pretty sure I bow this "anywhichway the melody goes"... which SOME people call "sawstroke".... not me, though!

Learned for the FH Virtual Fiddle Festival- drew on various versions from folks on the Hangout including IdleHands and Dogmageek. THANKS! Booker features the magnet mutes and the mics are a Studio Projects B1 and a Naiant X-Q

Old Dan Tucker is the first thing I ever learned on the fiddle- played it with double stops from the start. Easy. Recently I heard it was the first tune John Summers played on fiddle, too. I have a Samson R11 dynamic underneath and to the left catching the bottom plate, and the Heil PR35 thru a Behringer Tube Mic 100 preamp catching the sound coming from the top.

Two songs I play on fiddle for children and seniors- usually I sing with them, but I thought I'd spare you the barnyard noises, and just give you the fiddle parts of the two songs in a medley. Lots of Smoothshuffle, Sawshuffle and Syncoshuffle. I haven't been performing or practicing much with the neodymium magnets, but it sure records better with them on the bridge!

Same as the above G medley, except I forgot and left one of the monitors on... it doesn't seem to hurt the recording, in fact, it only seems to add a slight reverb effect!!!

First fiddle recording in new apartment living room. Two Naiant X-Q small diaphragm condensers (I found the other one- one in front, but one high and to the right, the other lower to the left) into the ART USB Dual Pre. Played over the monitors, my wife agrees this is what my fiddle actually sounds like. (Booker the Knilling Bucharest) Dry, no reverb. Room is carpeted, acoustic ceiling that's been painted over, and drapes at one end, but not much on the walls.

Recorded with a Naiant X-Q mic above and to the front about an arm's length, and with a Studio Projects B1 below and to the left. My Knilling Bucharest has the Thomastik Precision Lights on it, and the mp3 was exported at the highest bitrate I could.

G, probably owes a lot to the Bunt Stephens version
