I was born in Kingsport, Tennessee. I started learning Suzuki violin at age 6 and played in the Kingsport Youth Orchestra throughout high school. While in high school, I played fiddle in Pigeon Forge, TN at the Smoky Mountain Jubilee and Country Tonite Theaters. I went to college at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee where I graduated in 2005 with a B.M. in Music Education. My first job in Nashville was playing fiddle with James Monroe and the Midnight Ramblers. Next, I worked with bluegrass legends and Grand Ole Opry stars, Bobby and Sonny the Osborne Brothers, for three years. I then played for 4 years on the road with a country singer named Blake Shelton. I taught orchestra, guitar, and AP music theory at Wando High School in Mt. Pleasant, SC for three years and most recently earned a Master's of Music in Orchestral Conducting from East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina. I'm currently living outside of Orlando, FL and accepting fiddle and violin students of all ages who want to learn how to play. www.derekdeakins.com
