Some of my earliest and clearest memories are of the time before I started school when we lived in the mountains of the North Coast of New South Wales.
Brooklana was a clearing in the bush with a sawmill down near the creek and not much else. My dad was the roustabout at the sawmill.
I can remember many a night falling asleep listening to dad singing and strumming in the kitchen.
There was no electricity or running water. I also remember the dingo's howling late at night.
I remember the time when dad got home and said he'd killed a Tiger snake, he thought it was a black snake...tigers are really aggressive.
I also remember the rainy afternoon when two workmates supported him limping home after he'd been bitten by a funnel web spider.
They took him to hospital which was a few hours away. It could have been fatal.
Dad loved Australian Bush Ballads. It is the Oz old time style. Is based upon the Jimmie Rogers style of guitar.
More or expand later if you're interested.
