I played *violin* as a kid, but gave it up in high school because I liked singing better. The violin stayed with me as my family and I moved around the country. At the 2013 Joe Val Festival, my kid got interested in bluegrass. My wife started playing bluegrass uke and picked up a mandolin, so I figured I'd better take up fiddling or be left out! I was surprised at how much muscle memory was left, and it's been great fun to learn the old-time tunes.
