Hey all !! More of an intermediate fiddle player here from NW Indiana/Chicago area. Began playing about 5 years ago now. Basically I grew up listening to country music, it's all I ever really listened to and was surrounded by. For as long as I can remember the sound of the fiddle in the background and on fiddle breaks always caught my attention. In my opinion the fiddle along with the pedal steel is what gives country music that signature sound that I love. So finally I decided to pick it up, and go all into it, especailly after learning that there arent many fiddle players out there. My only regret is that I waited this long to do it.....who knows where I'd be right now if I had picked it up years ago ! I've been learning mostly Old Time fiddle, and I really love it and enjoy playing that style, and it has been a great and fun way to learn and get comfortable with the instrument. I've always been a history buff, and I believe it's important to keep the good old tunes alive and passed on ! It's kinda cool to think that when you are playing "Soldiers Joy", it's the same tune that was played in camp on a battlefield over 100 years ago ! And here we are today, still playing it ! But, country is where my heart REALLY is, and I've been working on a lot of improvisation and country songs along with the Old Time. Progress is going very good so far, and even though Im no Stuart Duncan it's still a lot of fun ! I currently play in a Top 40 country cover band called "Gone Country" near the chicago area. We play mostly locally.....legions, VFW's, town festivals, private parties, local honky tonks and benefits. Also have opened some larger shows, Jason Michael Carroll and Lee Bryce. Set list includes Top 40 country, some older country, and also some GREAT orignals by our lead vocalist. Some day Id love to play for a national act or major label country artist.....Im a work in progress !
