First Blog Entry

Monday, September 24, 2007

This is the first blog type thing I've ever done, so, if it isn't right--hey, it's a learning experience.  I suppose I will use this as a forum to discuss thoughts, observations and insights on life, or maybe just to tell really stupid jokes.  I love reading just about anything I can on playing, bowing, tone, music theory, etc., and I welcome any information that anyone wishes to share on music.  3 comments

I am merely an adult beginning fiddler who wants to be good at fiddling. I had always wanted to play fiddle and finally mustered the courage to buy one, and then another, and then another. Providence favored me with an excellent (and very patient) fiddle teacher--Diane Gillenwater--who has taught me much. I regret that I started playing so late in life; therefore, I try to make up for the lost time by practicing everywhere I can--while walking, on vacation, work breaks, in the bathroom... There are very few instruments as expressive as the fiddle. It has the ability to make you dance with joy or to wring a tear of sorrow from your soul. I've witnessed this often--my teacher frequently cries when I play and dances a jig when my lesson is over!
