Humbled by this instrument - Posted - 04/01/2012:  09:53:05

By way of an inexplicable series of events, I got to play fiddle with Stressard Schuster (VIOLIN extraordinaire) and what an awesome time it was indeed.  Though brought up as a Classical stylist and rising to be the first string violinist in the Deutschegard Symphony, Stressard says he's always had a love of OT fiddling and it shows.  He has a very fluid style, fluid wrist, and prefers an advanced bow speed over a heavy pressure to get his tone, a tone which is NOT Classical sounding at all when he plays, for instance, "Sailor's Hornpipe" or "Soldier's Joy," etc.  Good time!

When you Google a name in a post, and it leads back to the same single post on the Fiddle Hangout you KNOW Humbled is making baloney sammiches again!

It's just that Google search hasn't yet been extended to cover parallel universes...

But it's nice to know they play Soldier's Joy there too....big

I am fascinated with his bow hold which can only be described as a hybrid between the classical Russian grip and the GI Joe Kung Fu Grip.  Most impressive.

Stressard Schuster, kissin' cousin of Elmer Klanksdipper?
