Avoiding Scams When Selling Online

The Fiddle Hangout classifieds system was developed to help protect sellers from scams. This simple page has been developed to help Hangout folks avoid getting scammed.

The simplest, most effective step in avoiding scammers is to NOT post your email address on the classified ad. The classifieds system was developed so that registered myHangout users can email you through the system, without ever seeing your email address. If you post your email address in the ad, scammers (and anyone in the world with Internet access) can see it and email you directly without being tracked by the classifieds system.

Lastly, let me just say this—use common sense. If an offer seems too good to be true, or seems fishy, chances are it is. When in doubt, ask a few friends for advice (you can even inquire on the forum)!
