This is a fine example of Daniel O. Smith’s making. It has some beautiful deeply flamed American maple and an elegant varnish that showcases its beauty. It has been professionally set up by Maxham Violins. It’s a pleasure to play, with an even tone and excellent response. It has plenty of power but a nuanced palette that gives the player endless room for expression. It is in excellent condition.
It bears an inscription in the back that states that during its construction, Smith taught Rich Maxham in the art of violin making. It bears both Smith’s and Maxham’s signatures below the inscription. It was on loan to a player in the Lynchburg Symphony for some time and was used in concerts.
