This is a nice example of Daniel O. Smith’s early work during his time in Evington. Its birdseye back and its rich varnish catch the eye right away. It’s an exciting violin to play—very easy in response and full of depth to explore.
It was originally bought new by an Old Time fiddler and played regularly until this year when he made the difficult decision to bring it back due to health issues that no longer afford him the opportunity to play. The bridge he put on it is flatter according to his personal preference. It’s a fiddle that can be used for anything—both fiddlers and classical players have been impressed by its presence and handling.
