This is a fine instrument made by Daniel O. Smith in 1998 in Evington, Virginia. As is the case with all Smith violins to date, it is made on the Guarneri Del Gesu Cannon model. The one piece back and ribs are birdseye maple. It has an eye-catching nut made of American boxwood and a set of antique German pegs. It is varnished with an oil varnish of Smith’s making.
At present it has a flatter bridge put on by its former owner to match his preference, but a new bridge can be chosen at no additional cost if preferred. It has been lovingly cared for over the years and shows almost no signs of wear despite continuous use.
It has a mature sound, one that comes from regular playing for over two decades. It has a good deal of warmth to its tone but it has enough power to project.
It comes in a hard shell oblong case of good quality. If a different option is desired, one can be selected before shipping. Bows are also available, some of which are listed on this site.
