I’m thinking about getting a YouTube channel but…

So I’m considering starting a YouTube channel, but one thing that makes me hesitant is how much privacy am I giving up to YouTube if I were to do it; beyond the normal tracking, which Apple does a pretty good job of limiting.
I’ve been interested in hearing what other YouTube channel holders think.
Thanks
Rick

I have a channel, and am not aware of any particular incursions on my privacy ... for what that's worth; I haven't gone looking for invasions of my privacy either, not sure what they'd look like ... !

The only privacy concern I think about is if I had some sort of opulent set dressing, like Vince Gil. I could have put a curtain up. But 'late century trashcan' is more me. Somebody once commented on the sheets I had on my stand or something. They didn't pertain to the song or tune, but they thought I was using them. Whatever. I've never had a troll. But I never will monetize. I never pursue clicks/views. When I get 12 views, I know they're probably real people. I mean, what I do, doesn't make a ripple in the ocean. I challenged a copyright ding, and won. After that, they kinda must’ve moved on. I'm not worth anything.

there is no privacy if you are on the internet.

What everyone else has already said. I don't monetize and also almost never post there anymore. Should probably think about doing that again.

I don’t think you necessarily increase the security risk significantly by posting some videos. YouTube is a Google property, so it has the pros and cons of its parent for privacy.

Anything that’s posted can exist forever, although access to it from the general public can be limited.

If you have concerns about privacy, you can take some steps to limit what you reveal. If you talk about your location or show anything in your background that provides clues to your location, someone could theoretically do some sleuthing to find your location.

As a case study, there was a YouTuber who showed up in my feed briefly. I noticed that he showed unobstructed shots of his license plate in several occasions in the midst of videos, and from signage I noticed in his videos, I quickly realized he lived (or at least made his content) fairly close to me. In one video he was getting ice cream at a small stand, and when he panned the camera and showed a view of the surrounding area, I recognized it. A quick look on Google Maps confirmed his exact location—using street view I could confirm the exact position from which he shot the video. I only cared about it because I was pretty sure I recognized the spot in the video and just wanted to make sure I wasn’t imagining it. I only watched a few of his videos, so I never saw whether he gave away more personal information, but it did occur to me that anyone more savvy than I (the bar is low) could probably glean far more than I did. That doesn’t mean anything bad was likely to happen, just that it wasn’t hard to pick up information on the location if you wanted to do so.

Most people have an online footprint already without making any YouTube content.

Getting off topic, but it just reminds me .... A few years back, I was watching video on youtube of a fiddling event in Quebec - and was surprised to see an acquaintance from Calgary in the crowd of spectators. Moral: If anyone's after you, don't go out in the daylight, and, when you're out at night, be sure to wear your hoodie and sunglasses and fake beard!
