Marion Thede and the Fiddlers of Oklahoma: The Fiddle Book, the Musicians and Their Tunes is now available and in stock at McFarland and Company!

Researching and writing this book was a labor of love. For the first time, the stories of Marion Thede and the fiddlers from whom she collected tunes are being told. Discover which Oklahoma fiddler was awarded first place in a fiddle contest above the legendary Eck Robertson. Learn about the hardships Marion experienced in getting The Fiddle Book published and find out which folk music legend had a hand in getting her book published.

Marion Thede and the Fiddlers of Oklahoma is filled with rare, unpublished photos and information as well as fresh transcriptions of the tunes found in The Fiddle Book along with their histories.

You can order your copy from McFarland & Company

I won't be mailing out signed copies as I did with my last book, but I am planning on doing house concerts/jams/book signings. Stay tuned to see where I'll be and when.

Congratulations on completing all you had to do - which must have been considerable - to get this book together and published. Looks interesting!

It sounds like an excellent book. I’m glad to see the care and devotion that goes into preserving history for future generations who will never realize its significance if it’s not shared.

I fear, though, that desire to purchase new books is constantly declining, so I would suggest that the book be promoted through various platforms if possible. If you can do promotion on YouTube through interviews or via podcast episodes or interviews with presenters, it may help to increase interest. A lot of books, even in the broader violin world, only achieve a limited circulation and quickly go out of print, so it takes a lot to keep them reaching readers, many of whom never even realize they exist.

Giving away a lot of detail about the content of a book can appear to be a way to aid listeners in avoiding the book by simply listening to the author’s synopsis, but if there isn’t enough coverage, potential readers can easily become distracted from their interest in it.

McFarland has been around since 1979, and they have specific methods to promote their books. I'm not new to the world of writing a book for a prominent publisher on a niche topic. I have plenty of ideas and am already receiving invitations to give presentations, give house concerts and promote the book, so between myself and the publisher working on promotion, I'm confident the book will get into the hands of those who are interested.
