UP with this post hehe. I discovered Clyde Davenport's outdoor recording of Bonaparte's Retreat and been trying to figure it out with YouTube slow speed ... Got the notes right and now I am having a look at the exact way he is bowing it... I got this and so happy now! Learning from old recordings ... I never thought I would reach this point!!!
I can safely play this one outside in the garden now, yay! It feels so good playing a nice tune outside with all the birds on the background.
Feeling alive today :-)))

I had a look at Midnight on the water a couple of years ago and I was indeed planning to have a new look at it so I can play this one after Bonaparte's Retreat. I did add half a note ( i think) because my fiddle sometimes just sounds better if I play a bit with the tuning , now i am in D#D#A#D#... Since I play solo it doesn't really matter , no other instruments to take into account . My A string got loose a while ago but it is still playable, I ordered some Helicore titanium A strings. I have the feeling half a step up for the highest strings is not that dramatic. They say never tune up A and E though I believe hehe.

I'm losing the names now...
Last session - flute player, whistle player and I played a reel which the flute player started by saying, "What about this one?" We played it three times through and about halfway through the second time I gave up on trying to think of its name. We finished it and nobody could think of its name, so the accordion player (tune lore type) recorded the first part...
Later that evening she emailed us and said, "Congress reel!"
So what tunes am I playing lately?
I actually don't know!! ![]()

That's the way I start every day. Coffee and Fiddle.

I may warm up or rinse with a 12bar Blues. (Improvisation)
I may work on these until I'm satisfied. This may take a lifetime.
One of my goals is to get proficient in 12 bar blues in the important keys.

I haven't taken the discipline to register the minor pentatonic scales in my vocabulary just yet. I think I have D and A sort of down. But, I should learn the major 12 bar blues first. I can play them on bass and guitar so it'll just take some time and ear training to get it down. I mainly work on the songs I know and at times I'll take a moment to slow down but I keep just running a tune that I'm able to pick out. This morning was "Big Footed Man...etc..." lol
Just worked out an arrangement of "The Cuckoo" (Most folk know it as "Si bheag Si mhor") In C Maj.
A friend of mine has a little medieval Harp thing that sounds great, but it it is tuned to C.
I find it pretty scary to see my latest video appear on the front page of FHO dang I am singing there. I forgot to deselect the option to make it appear in the jukebox list (I guess)
It's good most of you all live far away anyway haha.
Playing today: still Two Soldiers but about time to let it go for a while so I can return back to it later on! I need more of these very old tunes that is for sure.
But for now I have a cool short video with 3 OT bowing patterns to practise they sound cool.
