Does anyone know of any websites where i can find some fiddle tunes in standard notation preferably with mp3s so i know how their supposed to sound,i've learned how to read standard notation and i need a few tunes to practice on.

The psu.edu site is excellent. I have visited it regularly for a while now.
You might also try my site. The tunes here are in standard notation and tablature. If you have tabledit, you can unselect the tablature option to view only the standard notation. That's what I do. If you don't have tabledit, you can download the pdf's, which are full scores with fiddle in standard and tab and clawhammer in tab only. There are accompanying midi's to go with the pdf's.

For Old Time stuff, check out the Fiddlers Companion site. The stuff comes in abc format, but there are several free converters online. If you have Tabledit (either the paid or free demo version, not the free viewer), you can import the abc file, convert it to either tab or notation, or both, and have it play a midi file.

I don't use the on-line converters - I use tabledit and import a copy of what I want to convert. That way, I can get a banjo tab and a fiddle notation and or any combination of instruments quickly and can use that as a starting point for my adaptations - plus, I have the built-in midi and don't have to hunt for an mp3.
I suggest you go HERE , where you can learn a lot about the entire ABC project and find information on how to make abc files, as well as a lot of useful resources, including some converters.

FHO member Peet De Moor has a wonderful website full of classic bluegrass tunes in MIDI format from The Fiddler's Fakebook and other sources. They are very well done. There are files that play backup for you, too. It's at bluegrassmidisound.eu

Bump - dont forget to use the fiddler's compnion site for tune history -
(and re British old english, scots/ irish - there is a lot to be found there!)
I find lots of tunes that "came over and made it into old timey - and thence to bluegrass - too many too think off -
A great book is "the fiddlers tune book" (janet davis music has) as it has a lot of tunes that are played in both contexts today -

What's really great - (since I have both pdf/acrobat and NWC - it the fact that there are also 2nd and third harmonies in there - plus a total beginner's line (very simple) if you are at a jam!

I hope i'm not bein a pain but i play the banjo as well and i've been wondering if you might know of any midi converters that convert midis to tab,i've got one that converts to notation which is good for the fiddle but i find tabs a lot easier for the banjo.
