Pete, this topic dates from 2007, but the OP made it a "sticky" so it stays at the top of the forum. For some reason, a member who's not been active lately is going around reviving threads that had died a peaceful natural death. There is a page of links that may or may not have been genuine once, that don't lead me anywhere, but they're almost five years old, so I wouldn't expect much. I wouldn't call them spam exactly, though.
Are you going to the baseball game today?
I have been following this thread from the beginning, and I think all of the links have been relevant when they were posted. But a lot has happened since 2007. Many sites have closed down (it costs a lot to maintain a site, and people moves or decease). I think it would be great to make an update of the links and make a list of actual list (which should be updated at least yearly).
Is the initial request wanting only free notation/recordings or is it also interested in online notation/records which can be purchased ? I have purchased notation/recordings made by Ian Walsh and been very happy with them. Just browse "Ian Walsh" and you will find the website that sells them.
There are free notation and tunes at "Jim's Roots & Blues" online. For learning a tune or technique, Ian Walsh's works better.
If you want to learn to play Irish tunes, just buy "The Complete Irish Fiddler". I have purchased just about all of them at one time or another, but this instructional does the best job of teaching Irish fiddling technique.
