More About Me
I am an Irish fiddler and a PhD candidate in ethnomusicology at the University of California, Santa Barbara. I frequently play in sessions in the Milwaukee area and have experience playing for set and step dancing. My teaching approach focuses on an in depth and nuanced study of style and technique, teaching students the lift, drive, rhythmic groove, and processes of melodic variation that characterize Irish traditional music. For this I also use a multimedia approach that includes listening to audio recordings and watching videos of master fiddlers and analyzing together how these musicians are crafting their performances of tunes.
