Dewitt's fiddle is on the heavy side, even with extensive front & back plate regraduation...and his scroll was pretty crude...so I swiped this idea from UK fiddle builder Tim Phillips.--reduces weight and looks cool The insides of the scroll are gold leafed too. The designs were inscribed with a needle tool...this is called 'broken leaf' aka sloppy leafy, where you don't try to make it perfect and let the underlying size-tole coat show through, randomly.

Neat. I like the idea of something different anyway. AND you can swing it around on your finger when holding a conversation, or better yet negotiating a trade. Create a little distraction, that sort of thing.
