Body of Dewitt Small's lefty-converted fiddle

Posted 11/8/2008 9:12:23 PM

I went for the look of old italian fiddles (aka 'antiqued') like some pix of genuine strads and guarnieris i've seen...plus gold leafed details ala some baroque fiddles...i carved a curve at the end of the fingerboard and added a touch of gold leaf there too, the idea being to echo the shape of the f-holes. Hmm. The goldleaf at the end of the fingerboard looks more like a pollywog or tadpole. Not sure about the gold leaf at fingerboard's end--might remove it.......NOTE: I DID remove the gold-leaf tadpole from the fingerboard. Looks better without it.
