Found this in the back of an old antique mall - had my name written all over it! These are the before pictures, I'm going to fix it up on the inside and actually use it again, especially when taking my fiddle to period reenactments.

I have this same case that came with my 1900 Heberlien violin sold by Oliver Ditson &Co. My guess is your case is at least 112 yrs old. Yours looks pretty good, better shape than mine.

Wow! Thank you for sharing about your antique case!...Oliver Ditson & Co - I'm going to have to look them up now. Does your case have any writting in it, or did you get all that information from the fiddle? Do you have pictures of it?
That is so neat, Thanks again for sharing!

I have that same one but had to do some major top repairs. It now has an old Stainer in it and is hanging on my wall. Nice display!

Awesome! I was lucky to find one in as good of shape as I did. It really doesn't need to much done to it and it will be ready to go! I will make sure to post the 'after' pictures of it fixed up with my fiddle. :)

The information I have came from inside the fiddle, nothing in the case,. Oliver Ditson was the first music publishing company in America. They had a few music stores that imported instruments and sold them under their name. I don't have pictures sorry.

Mine had been in an attic and got wet so the top had split in several places and the marroon lining on the bottom was falling appart. The wall paper on the top was all but gone too. When it was repaired the guy cautioned me about ruining the "patena" but it was about ruined completely already...only could help. It is I nice display. I have another that is made with what looks like thin plywood over the pine base and it in very good shape. I should post some picts....

Fiddleiphile - That is so interesting! It's great that you got your fiddle & case together as an original pair. My fiddle isn't an old one, but I have thought of finding an old one to go with my old case and setting it up period correct (down to the tail piece & strings), unlike my modern fiddle set up.
Notoold - Neat! Sounds like you've fixed a few yourself already - I would love to see pictures!!
