A song by April Verch ... a tribute to John Hartford. She talks about how this tune made her think of him and the water. I agree. This is from her 'From Where I Stand' album (a wonderful album I should add). This is just a chunk of the fiddle part (no song in this cut) and with April's blessing I share with you my fiddling of this.

Written by Steve Smith. Another one of those that I use as a milestone in my growth with my fiddle.

And to wrap up my week with TOTW, here's my weeks worth of practice on this tune ... I learned this from Julie Duggan's (banjofrailer) cut from her homepage.

Here's a tune that's been going around the jam groups I hang out with. In G.

Here's a Mando Mafia tune I record myself playing now and again to test how I'm doing. It ain't perfect, but it's a whole lot better than the one I recorded a year ago!

M-D posted a video of his friends, Saint Vitus Dance Band, playing this and it was instant attraction for me. Here's my 2nd version. Scottish. James Scott Skinner. 1903

Jessi brought this tune to the Barn Jam a few weeks ago. I took quite a hankering to it, and here's my version of it. Note that the B part is crooked and I've read where some add an extra Em measure to straighten it out. I (we) opted not to.

Erynn Marshall tune from her Shout Monah CD. Please be sure to listen to her cut of this so you know how it's SUPPOSED to sound! http://www.fiddlehangout.com/myhangout/music.asp?id=280 I just learnt this tune a few days ago and this is a first cut. So you're getting it warts and all!

My last teacher taught this in D, but the folk here say it more common in A. Here is my version in A. A Shetland tune by Pat Shaw.

A kind of Gypsy Jazz tune I like a lot. One of the first more complex tunes I learned. If anyone can figure out the chords for this, I'd be much obliged if you could send them my way.

I once said that I could play this at the same clip as Dan Levenson and here's my 'proof'. Of course it's just playing fast, not like Dan's 'playing fun'. But it is a helluvalotta fun to play. Really gets both feet a tapping!

Hmm. The Song Title field doesn't allow enough letters for this title. I had to cramp Pigs and Foot together to get that one last letter! :o) Really! I love this tune. The name don't match the feel, but it's a toe tapping fun tune to play.

A second go at it. I think I'm a bit cleaner than the one I posted in January ... I hope anyway.

Here's a tune inspired by Janie Rothfield from her Ifiddle, theyBanjo album. I have a banjo friend who also likes this tune and we've been working on it a bit. This is just me on 1st and 2nd fiddle. When Gary and I get something working I'll record a fiddle/banjo version.

A traditional tune written in the late 1700's I learned at a workshop yesterday. (Jessi? Just in case you need to hear it again!) Jenny Humphrey (my regular teacher) held the workshop at John and Pems annual Barn Jam - all day - jam, potluck, workshop, hike and yesterday ... investigating bear poop! (be careful on them hikes! Yikes!) http://www.ibiblio.org/fiddlers/speed.htm
