I learned this tune in the early 70's from the late Pat Dunford, a great scholar of traditional music and one of the best open-hand banjo players I ever heard.

I was moved to learn this tune after hearing Bruce Molsky play it; but any places where my rendering resembles his are places where I got lucky.

I play fiddle on the first tune, banjo on the second, and guitar on both. I made these recordings in 1976, pretty early on in my fiddling life.

I don't know what the boys in Kilarney were up to that inspired the name of this tune; but I'm guessing it was something that I too would enjoy. This is a reel, and it's normally played a lot faster than this. I like it at this speed, and when I'm home alone, I get to play it at whatever speed I want.

I got this Irish slow air from the playing of Randall Bays, a magnificent player. I would like to have met the girl who inspired this composition.

This is the unaccompanied version of this tune from a tune lesson that I'll be putting up at fiddlehub.com within a couple of weeks.

Me on banjo, many years ago. A capella, so to speak. I love this tune . . . on any instrument.

If you've been to an Irish session just about anywhere, you've heard this one.

This is the arrangement I put together for the tune lesson on fiddlehub.com. I just put up the tune lesson, so I thought I would upload the tune as well. Beginner to intermediate level. Fiddle & guitar.

This is a version of St. Anne's that I designed to introduce playing on two strings at a time. Most of the notes added to the melody are open strings.

This is a jig I originally learned from the playing of Kevin Burke. That was several years ago, so I imagine I have wandered pretty far from that setting by now.
