When there's a lull in a jam, there's nothing like Angelina Baker to get it back up again. J-Walk snuck in with this one at the Glendale Folk & Heritage Festival (Glendale, AZ March 2010), and it really started cooking.

Here's an early attempt at a really cool tune, which has been recorded by Bob Carlin (Fiddle Tunes for Clawhammer Banjo), Bruce Hutton (Old-TIme Music - It's All Around), and Bill Gipe (1970s field recording). I'm learning from (and playing along to) a version posted a while ago at the Banjo Hangout by our own Frailin' (Craig Evans). The fiddler on that recording is Debbie Sorensen-Boeh. I slowed it down to 55% in Amazing Slow Downer. The first time through, it's excruciatingly slow. It picks up a lot the second time around.

Recorded at the Tucson Old-Time Music Circle, June 4, 2010. This was mostly an impromptu tutorial between fiddlers John "artcarnie" White, and Michele "groundhogbrains." I'd say it was a successful lesson! Key of D (or is that G?).

Here's a recording I made at the end of my first day learning this Sarah Armstrong D Tune. My banjo buddy, J-Walk and I are "e-jamming." He sent me a recording of his solo banjo, to which I added the fiddle part. We both learned it mostly by listening to Linda Vik's excellent You Tube video. We'll work on getting this one better.

First attempts at this one in a two-person jam--J-Walk on banjo, me on fiddle. Pardon the bobbles in the middle. It's a work in progress. This was a Tune of the Month last summer over at the Banjo Hangout: http://www.banjohangout.org/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=154276

That's Brian Muise playing clawhammer banjo on the tune he's spread through the Banjo and Fiddle Hangouts. J-Walk on guitar, me attempting the fiddle part, and others at a Tucson Old-Time Music Circle pre-jam at J-Walk's house. D-tuning.
