Well, Im going to try to keep up with a blog ( at least for a little while). Anyway, I have been fiddling for a little over a year, could play some tunes reasonably well, but I had pretty poor technique...my palm just laid flat againt the neck. THEN, I got sucked into wanting to play some more Irish tunes. I really love the structure, and the ornaments, and I have some buddies who also enjoy Irish tunes to play with. However, my "OT" technique was not great for playing so many various tunes in standard tuning, or using ornamentation like roles and cuts, especially with the 4th finger. I realised pretty quickly that I had to improve my technique. So I adjusted my shoulder rest, my hold, and just about everything else. It was really frustrating, like starting all over again. But I have been sticking with it, and am getting some chops, Im actually much more satisfied with my playing and tone, etc. I really just enjoy the heck out of playing the fiddle. So, that makes the discipline a little easier to maintain. I do have to say that I find playing the fiddle much more tiring than the banjo. So, I play until Im tuckered out, then relax and frail the banjo a bit. I guess Ill just keep plugging away. And I'll try to post some more tunes.

Always up to my eyeballs in folkie stuff on account of my mom (and her family heritage.) started picking banjo in 2006 and got inspired to try my hand at fiddling after seeing mike Seeger and Dan Levenson play. (and running across an outrageously cheap fiddle)
