Playing Since: 1968
Experience Level: Purty Good
Interests:
[Teaching] [Jamming] [Socializing] [Helping]
Occupation: retired professor, writer, and part-time livestock farmer
Age: 80
My Instruments:
My number one is a dark Guarnerius copy made in Chicago by A.W. Reitz in 1918; it was Pete McMahan's number two violin and I bought it from Pete in 1993.
My number two fiddle is my grandfather's German factory Strad.
Favorite Bands/Musicians:
Big names (commercial fiddlers): Eck Robertson, Arthur Smith, Tommy Jackson, Kenny Baker.
Missouri names: Some of the titans I have known and stolen ideas from include Art Galbraith, Taylor McBaine, Lyman Enloe, Gene Goforth, Cyril Stinnett, Johnny Bruce, Jake Hockemeyer, Nile Wilson, and Pete McMahan.
I learned a lot from Ed Riley in Indiana when I was there in grad school in the early 70s and I greatly admired Indiana fiddler John D. (Dick) Summers.
