Grace started classical violin lessons at the age of 9 with Lolita Hale and instantly fell in love with the violin, she continued classical lesson for 7 years and became a member, soloist and concert master of the Junior Niagara Youth Orchestra for 2 years. In the summer of 07’ Grace attend the Orangeville fiddle and step dance camp and was out of her comfort zone. She started the week as a classical violinist, never referring to the instrument as a fiddle but by the end of the week she was catching herself calling it a fiddle and asking her parents if she could attend the following year and she did. In the winter of 08’ Grace looked into getting fiddle lessons as well as continuing on with classical and she started fiddle lessons in January under the tutelage of Beth Bartley. When the 3rd year of fiddle camp came around she was almost fully converted to the “Dark side” or rather, to fiddling. Grace is a member of the SSOFF (secret society of fiddle fingers) and also a member of the Old Tyme Fiddlers Association in St.Catharines. Grace attends winter workshops, Tuesday night fiddle jams and plans to compete in at least two fiddle contests this summer. Although she has not continued on with her classical training you can still catch her playing a concerto once in a while just to see if she still has it!
