Chip Cohen has been fiddling for audiences across the United States since the 1970s. After studying classical violin as a youth in Maryland, he traveled to the Great Smokey Mountains, where he became immersed in bluegrass and old-time fiddling. He’s been fiddling ever since, playing everything from bluegrass to rock and roll to mariachi. He has performed with such artists as the Holy Modal Rounders, the Johnson Mountain Boys, Ferlin Huskey, and Michelle Shocked.
An Oregonian since 1984, Chip performs around the Northwest as a soloist on fiddle and classical guitar, and with, among others, klezmer band the Klezmonauts, bluegrass band Rusty Still, and western swing band the Texas Toasters. His solo CD, “Horsehair”, was hailed by the Eugene Weekly as a “musical masterpiece". Chip's first music book, Tall Tales and Twin Fiddles was published in July 2014.
