Over eight hundred miles from the Grand Ole Opry and the birthplace of Bluegrass, brothers Tommy, 13; Robbie, 11; and Jonny, 8, might be the most unassuming bluegrass trio in the region. However unlikely, the Sleepy Man Banjo Boys are the result of brotherly-love, faith in God, and an intentional abandonment of the Suzuki method. Though their combined age is younger than music's Hip-Hop era, it's the music of Earl Scruggs, Bryan Sutton, Aubrey Haynie, and Mike Scott that inspires the sound pouring from the strings of Robbie's fiddle, Tommy's guitar and Jonny's banjo. With a preferred plucking position on his back, eyes closed, little Jonny was the inspiration, and the name had emerged: the Sleepy Man Banjo Boys were born.
