I began playing fiddle when I was 17 years old. I'm basically self-taught, though I picked up a lot from playing with Alan Block and Kenny Kosek in NYC, Wayne Young in VT, Jimmie Campbell in IN, Jake and Lena Hughes in MO, and Ralph Blizard in TN. I've been fortunate to get to meet and play with various other great fiddlers over the years. Currently I am retired from East Tennessee State University but still teach old time fiddle, old time banjo and direct an old time string band on a part time basis.
