The dean of American fiddle music scholars, Samuel P. Bayard collected fiddle and fife tunes from traditional musicians in southwestern Pennsylvania during the course of his long, productive life as a university professor and part time folklorist. Author of HILL COUNTRY TUNES (1944) and DANCE TO THE FIDDLE, MARCH TO THE FIFE (1982), Bayard had completed the manuscript of a massive collection of folk songs at the time of his death.
