This is a fine early violin made by Daniel O. Smith in 1998 during his time in Evington, Virginia. As all his violins, it is made on the Guarneri del Gesu Cannon model. On this violin Smith experimented with a longer corner design more in the Amati style. As Smith says, keeping the same model but making small incremental changes with each violin gives him the opportunity to try ideas to see how they influence the outcome.
It is varnished with a fine oil varnish and has a two-piece back with rich flame. It is a very powerful violin that can really cut if you dig into it. It responds easily and has a crisp and clear tone.
It will come in a lightweight case unless a different option is desired. A few excellent vintage cases are available upon request. Bows are also available, some of which are listed on this site.
